April Showcase: Yesterdays News.

This coming month Reno Art Works is excited to exhibit the works of a new artist to town, Jennifer Charboneau.  The Minneapolis native will transform the 1995 Gallery with expressive drawings, large scale paintings, writings, and installations.

“Yesterdays News” is the newest collection of J.Charboneau works which explores the artist’s filtered chaos theory while highlighting inspiration from the following influences: Television. Radio. News. album covers. Quotes. Movie stills. Dreams. Random thoughts. Caffeine. People watching. And time.
The show will weave you through chaos and leave you satisfied with a familiarity to the artwork.

An incomplete, in-process painting will be one of J.Charboneau’s featured installations. She will work live within the gallery throughout the month to complete the ~3 foot by 8 foot canvas.

It’s our 4th Anniversary on Dickerson Road!!!! Join us for a RAW extravaganza, live music, live art, spoken word and raffle prizes.

The opening reception and 4 year anniversary event will be March 10th from 6 to 9 pm at 1995 and 2035 Dickerson. That’s right we now have 2 RAW locations on Dickerson Road.

To celebrate we have created an exhibit with all of our artists working on collaboartive pieces.

A show dedicated to showcasing the multidisciplinary collective environment within the 2016 RAW AIR (artist in residence). The works represent collaborations highlighting conscious and unconscious links between the artists in such ways as; medium use, subject matter, artistic ideas, and intentional curation.

RAW is an environment of artists working toward the same goal, to create and share their process with each other and the Reno community.

NO REALITY PLEASE.. A huge variation in subject matter and styles, I try anything interesting and if I like it, incorporate it into my work. I use mixed media, feathers, jewelry, sand, glass…etc. I don’t mind if elephants are red, blue or yellow…it’s all good. I love what I do and sell a great deal of my works to lawyers, doctors, professors, family and friends of course. Color is my way of looking at a sometimes very dark world, and hopefully it brings light and cheer and bizarreness into your world too. Fun, zany and at the same time some works have hidden messages.

RGJ documents many of the creative businesses on Dickerson Road.

“People can go to Dickerson Road and see experimental sculpture, rich oil paintings, performance art and hand-forged steel sculpture work, learn ceramics, take an art class in just about anything, take an improv class, buy a succulent, get a keg and get their car fixed,” said Shapiro, RAW’s executive director.”  Read full article here.

Pan Pantoja leads 1st permanent piece in new sculpture park.

“Throughout the month of March, Pantoja, along with Reno artists Aric Shapiro and Kelsey Sweet, worked with 3,000 Fernley school students to create 15,000 unique, colorful, Fernley and Nevada-focused artwork on 4-inch-by-4-inch tiles.” Read full article here.

The Reno Art Works gallery maintains a fresh rotation of art, and warmly receives local submissions as well. “We’ve developed a buyer’s market and a customer base in Reno for these artists. Their art can support their art,” says Pantoja, “and we’ve done it in a non-competitive environment.” “There’s perfection in the process, and by sharing style and technique the artists are able to expand as individual artists working in a community,” says Shapiro. “We provide a shove, and it is a very empowering experience for the artists.” – See more here
