Workshops

WORKSHOPS IN THE RAW

Classes are held at Reno Art Works @ 1995 Dickerson Rd. 

Please contact the workshop coordinator, Jen, at  – workshops@renoartworks.org – for sign-up, payment, supply lists, and specific workshop questions.

You will be contacted directly for up-to-date workshop information as well as cancellations due to minimum workshop enrollments not being met.

Workshops in the Raw is a continually growing concept, please feel free to email us with workshop classes you might be interested to see on our calendar in the future.

The Space:

Workshops are held in the back room of the 1995 Gallery as well as within the AIR Studio spaces also located at 1995.

There are two unisex bathrooms, a workshop display wall within the Gallery, an outdoor gated storage and work space, multiple 6 ft tables, 15+ chairs, additional lighting, teaching projectors, and ample parking out front.

Open Art Day

Date: First and Third Fridays 11-1pm (starting April 1st)

Pop in to Reno Art Works, check out the latest Gallery show, and then get creative for 2 hours. A project will be provided each session and some days have guest teachers. This workshop is In partnership with Build Our Center and Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.

Supplies: All supplies are provided. Email the instructor for a list of things you could bring for personal use.

Abstraction of Form and Gesture

An intimate workshop investigating the abstraction of a figure or a subject.  You will be guided through several abstraction and gesture drawing warm-ups then move onto a final painting of which will be yours to keep. You may contact the instructor for one day or two classes. Class size limited to parties of 5.

Supplies: All drawing and painting supplies are provided. The instructor will also email you with suggested references to bring.

All experience levels welcome.

1 day (3  hours) $60

2 days (6-8 hours) $100


Hump Day Jam & Color Sessions

Date: 2nd Wednesdays 5 – 7pm  (monthly. starting April 13th)

Color in a creative environment and bring your own coloring pages, check out our collection of pages and books or work on blank paper using simple mediums… Back to our roots! Crayons, markers, watercolor, colored pencils will be provided for you to color with as we listen to music from local bands… Relax and discover some new tunes! All participants will be entered to win a CD from a local band. New jams every 2nd Wednesday! You are welcome to bring your own drinks or snacks while you color!

Supplies: Crayons, markers, watercolor, colored pencils will be provided including a selection of adult style coloring pages and newsprint paper to draw on.

All experience levels welcome

$5 a night.  Pay at the door.


Drink & dRAW!

Date: 1st and 3rd Wednesday’s 7 – 9 (Monthly. starting April 20th)

This is an ongoing studio class that meets every first and third Wednesday of the month. An unorthodox life drawing class with limited formal instruction and maximum visual stimulation from an assortment of the following: nude models, burlesque performers, musicians, staged still lifes, running films, and projected images. There is also a BYO invitation with extra liquid creative courage offered from our beer sponsors at Lagunitas.

Supplies: (charcoal, paper, pencils, drawing boards) limited supplies are offered. Please bring materials as you like.

21+ only, all experience welcome.

$10 Cost at the door.


Artist Trading Card Workshop

Date: 4th Wednesdays 5 – 7pm  (monthly. starting April 27th)

Instructor: Jessica Fry

Whether you are an advanced artist or beginner come join us in making unique Artist Trading Cards or ATCs. We will have a new theme every month and you will be able to access a menagerie of creative supplies for expressing the artist within! You will be given the supplies to create 6 original ATC’s and a protective sleeve for holding them and trading. We will end each workshop with a short trading session so that everyone will get the chance to either start or continue their collection! Artist mediums will be introduced and basic ATC assembly will be taught. An instructor will be on hand to supply information and guidance.

Supplies: ATC sized cardstock, scissors, adhesive, a small selection of basic artist mediums and a trading sleeve will all be supplied. Depending on the theme of the month, extra materials will be provided! (Attendees are more than welcome to bring extra supplies as they feel fit)

Youth Life Drawing & Painting

Date: April 9.  12 – 3pm

Instructor: Jen Charboneau

This is a fun experimental youth drawing and painting class which teaches basic drawing skills with introduction to mixing and applying paints. Students will work from either a life drawing set-up or multiple projected images to create a finished artwork to take home at the end of the day. Stencils and upcycled materials  may also be introduced for the students to experiment with.

Supplies: student grade canvas, paints, crayons, brushes, and pencils will be supplied. A small snack and drink will also be included. Inquiries about additional materials should be directed to the instructor’s email.

Age level 5 -8 years of age. (elementary students)

Color My Heart Whole – A Watercolor Date Night

Date: April 16.  6 – 8:30pm

Instructor: Jessica Fry

Join us for a beginner lesson in watercolor and share a pallet with your significant other in this fun and creative date night. You will get to practice with multiple watercolor mediums and techniques to make a joined heart painting, 2 halves becoming whole!

Acrylic Techniques

An afternoon of exploration in acrylic landscape techniques. This class will be held during on studio’s at RAW.
